Empowering Haitian Educators to teach their community
Education is perhaps the most important cornerstone to community development in Haiti. Helping Haiti raise and educate its next generation might just end up being the thing that allows Haitians to bring themselves out of poverty.
We’ve exemplified our commitment to education in Haiti in a myriad of ways over the years. Most impactful has been our ongoing relationship and partnership with the Cascade Pichon Community School (CPCS) in Cascade Pichon, Haiti. We have been partnering with CPCS in various ways since we first went to Haiti in 2015, and in 2021 we began facilitating sponsorships to keep the school’s doors open. We continue to do that even into 2024. Amidst the political turmoil, natural disasters, and terrible inflation in Haiti, the Haitian government has not been able to provide a contract to pay teachers at many rural Haitian schools, including CPCS.
New School in Baguette!
What a great experience helping the community of Baguette open their first school in the fall of 2023! We couldn’t be more excited to see this area have a place to educate their children. :)
We’ve also helped CPCS and Baguette with a number of other projects over the years, including:
supplementing teacher salaries at the school when the Haitian government was unable to follow through on distributing payroll.
helping CPCS build a Kindergarten-wing onto their school in 2017 for the more than100 Kindergarten students who attend the school, an 8th grade classroom in 2021, and a 9th grade classroom in 2023. (Guess what’s coming in 2024??)
assisting with the fundraising and construction of a clean water system at the school in 2020
Other Education Initiatives
We also engage in other initiates to support rural education across Southeast Haiti. Principal C of CPCS also works as our Director of Education, through him we network and engage with other schools/communities to see how we can support Haitian-led education throughout the rural Southeast. Some examples of these other initiatives include:
facilitating training sessions for teachers to hone their skills in the classroom
engaging with communities who want to start their own schools and helping them create budgets and/or logistical frameworks
guiding Haitian students in their seeking of higher education opportunities after graduation
implementing a clean water teaching session to help prevent cholera outbreaks.
